About

Two makers, one shop, a lot of walnut.

Willow Wood Working Inc. started in a rented garage with a chainsaw mill and a single willow log that came down in an ice storm. The willow turned out to be a terrible table and a very good lesson. We kept the name.

Twelve years on, the shop is bigger and the timber is better: black walnut, white oak, cherry, ash and maple, all Ontario-grown and salvaged rather than logged. What has not changed is the pace. Every piece is built by the two of us, start to finish, and we would rather deliver late than deliver something we would not keep.

We make tables, cutting boards, benches, stools and shelving. If you have a slab of your own, a tree that has to come down, or a drawing on a napkin, we would like to see it.

The mark

A folding rule, opened into a W.

The brass-hinged folding rule was the first tool in the shop and is still the one we reach for. Our mark is one of them, unfolded into our initial. Measure twice, cut once.

Local wood

Every board is Ontario hardwood, salvaged from urban removals and storm falls. Nothing is imported and nothing is logged for us.

Honest joinery

Solid wood throughout, joined the way it wants to move. No veneers, no particle board, no fasteners where a tenon belongs.

Lifetime repair

If a piece of ours is ever damaged, bring it back. We will refinish it for the cost of materials, forever.
